Conflict Management in Georgia
NTS was busy in Georgia recently despite the brief State of Emergency that was imposed during our presence there (the two events were unconnected!)
The OSCE (The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe) is the world's largest regional security organisation whose 56 participating States span the geographical area from Vancouver to Vladivostok.
The OSCE Mission to Georgia has a wide ranging brief spanning from Anti Terrorism to Conflict resolution. They are involved in monitoring the Joint Peacekeeping Forces (JPKF) in the zone of the Georgian-Ossetian conflict as well as in assisting the Georgian Government in its efforts to improve economic and environmental related legislation.
Tim delivered two workshops designed to develop the skills of OSCE staff in managing conflict. A topic that seemed relevant as troops patrolled the streets of the capital Tbilisi outside his hotel!
